According to one AI prediction, the New York Jets will win their division

Around the NFL, expectations for the New York Jets are largely tempered. Even with Buffalo’s and Miami’s losses during the offseason and the Jets’ improvements, the ‘Same Old Jets’ moniker and the injury questions surrounding the team make many skeptical that they’ll be able to break through.

However, one artificial intelligence (AI) model is buying the Jets. The 33rd Team AI predicted the results of the AFC East in 2024 — with the Jets coming out on top.

The AI has the Jets going 12-5 with the Bills close behind at 11-6, taking a wild card berth. Take the prediction with a grain of salt, as it has the Patriots going 9-8 and the Dolphins 7-10.

The Jets maintain the longest active postseason drought in the four major American sports at 13 years, though the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres joined them in the ignominious category. They haven’t won their division since 2002 when they squeaked in with a 9-7 record. The Jets have won their division only twice since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger: in 1998 and 2002.

In many ways, the Jets have their best chance since 2008 to come out on top of the AFC East. That year, Tom Brady went down in Week 1 with a torn ACL, and the Jets started 8-3 to tie with the Patriots for first place. However, they lost four of their last five games to finish 9-7, third in the AFC East. Once Brady left New England, the Jets were in quarterback purgatory until Aaron Rodgers joined — for four snaps.

If the Jets want to win the AFC East in 2024, it will start with Rodgers staying healthy. The health of Tyron Smith, Mike Williams, Morgan Moses, and Alijah Vera-Tucker follows closely behind. On paper, though, the Jets have a formidable team that could make noise in the AFC.

At least an AI believes in them.
