Would New York Jets fans approve of this season opener?
With the 2024 NFL schedule expected to be revealed soon, fans and media alike are making their predictions for where certain matchups might fall. NFL Network’s Peter Schrager – who has been quite accurate when it comes to the New York Jets – is participating in the speculation with a mock schedule prediction.
Schrager gave his mock NFL schedule predictions in a post on the “Good Morning Football” X (formerly Twitter) account. He made predictions for Week 1, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and the teams with the most and least primetime games.

Within those predictions, Schrager has the Jets hosting the Miami Dolphins to open up their season. He predicts the AFC East matchup will be the main game on CBS, as he has Jim Nantz and Tony Romo as the listed announcers.
There are plenty of intriguing options for the Jets’ season opener. A home matchup with Miami would be as good as any of them.
It would be an immediate test for the Jets’ defense. The Dolphins have blazing speed all over their offense, which caused problems for New York last year. Miami’s offense scored 57 points across two games against the Jets. The Tyreek Hill and Sauce Gardner matchup would be a must-watch, and it would be fascinating to see how New York attempts to counter the plans of Miami head coach Mike McDaniel after his success against them last season.
On the other hand, facing Miami would offer Aaron Rodgers an opportunity to start his comeback season strong. While the Dolphins have some great talent on their defense, they have been a middle-of-the-pack unit in recent years. They ranked 22nd in points allowed per game last season and lost star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins in the offseason. The Jets and their Hall-of-Fame quarterback would have a chance to get off on the right foot offensively.
There will not be a long wait to see the Jets’ official schedule, as the full schedule will be released on May 15, according to the Sports Business Journal. Until then, the speculation will be flowing, and the Jets-Dolphins matchup is one of the better season-opener candidates that has been thrown out into the discourse.
