League-wide praise continues rolling in for the New York Jets
The New York Jets have two of the best young players in all of football.
In their recently released “Top 25 players under 25” rankings, Pro Football Focus had cornerback Sauce Gardner ranked second and wide receiver Garrett Wilson ranked ninth.
When discussing Gardner’s ranking, PFF said that the two-time All-Pro “already has a case as the best cornerback in the NFL.”
“His 91.2 PFF overall grade over the past two seasons leads all players at the position, while his 2,163 regular-season snaps rank third among cornerbacks. Gardner’s 0.52 receiving yards allowed per coverage snap figure not only leads the position, but the gap between him and second place is the same size as the gap between second and 15th.”
Regarding Wilson, the site stated that “Wilson ranks 19th among wide receivers over the past two seasons in PFF overall grade (81.3).”
The list itself is filled with talented players, showing that the NFL’s future is in good hands. It also indicates that Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson are a part of the upper echelon of talent in the league.
Gardner’s accolades speak for themselves, showing that he has achieved a level of defensive dominance that most young players cannot reach. But even with two first-team All-Pro selections, Gardner still has room to be even better; if he can force more turnovers, the Cincinnati product has a chance to challenge for the title of best defensive player in football.
Wilson is perfectly set up to skyrocket all types of lists in 2024. Without a functional quarterback situation, the Ohio State product has posted two straight 1,000-yard seasons. Aaron Rodgers’s return and the addition of new weapons should help to elevate Wilson to new heights.
There are many reasons why the Jets could take a leap in 2024, but continued elite production from two stellar under-25 players in Gardner and Wilson will be one of the main ones.
