Jeff Ulbrich laughed when asked about a rumor regarding a New York Jets star acquisition
If this New York Jets narrative seemed ridiculous from the outset, Jeff Ulbrich made it further laughable.
After the Jets traded for Haason Reddick, past rumors about Reddick from inside the Philadelphia Eagles locker room leaked out. The claim was that Reddick “sold out for sacks.”
Ulbrich was asked about this during his first OTA press conference. He laughed and said, “That’s a hard question to answer.
“I think there’s a level to all great pass rushers in the history of this league, there’s an element that they’re going to play pass-first. Sometimes you live with the bumps in the road that come with that,” he expounded. “I’m not saying he’s that type of guy — I haven’t been around him enough to know if he’s that or not — but he’s an amazing player. When that guy gets on the field on third down or passing situations, he is an absolute problem, and he’s going to continue being a problem for opponents.”
Ulbrich elaborated that the Jets see Reddick as an every-down player despite his small stature. “He’s great with leverage, hand placement, he understands how to play the position, both as a pass rusher, obviously, from the sack production, but also from an edge-setting standpoint.”
So much for the Jets’ concern that Reddick chases sacks. One of the conditions on the third-round pick the Jets sent to the Eagles was Reddick racking up at least 10 sacks. If that happens, so much the better.
