The former New York Jets fullback gave his thoughts on the team for the upcoming season
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, former New York Jets fullback Tony Richardson gave his impression on the team and the atmosphere surrounding Gang Green heading into 2024.
“The expectation [for the Jets] last year was high. This year it’s off the charts,” said Richardson. “It’s a win now [situation] … obviously with Aaron being healthy, the way they drafted, the way they spent in free agency. The way the defense played last year, they’re going to build on that. I’m never going to say Super Bowl or bust because it’s very difficult to do that. But I do like the Jets’ chances to compete in the division. Because number one, you have to win your division. And when you’ve got Aaron Rodgers you’re going to be in every game. We just have to keep him healthy and the sky’s the limit.”

It’s hard to argue the pressure that’s on the Jets going into 2024. Many have given the team a mulligan after losing Rodgers after four snaps last year. However, it’s unlikely that underperformance will be tolerated for a consecutive season. After all, with Jets owner Woody Johnson all but demanding a playoff appearance, many in the building know their jobs could be on the line. Even Rodgers acknowledged at the start of OTAs that if he underperforms, it could cost everyone their jobs.
“If I don’t do what I know I’m capable of doing, we’re all probably going to be out of here,” started Rodgers. “I like that kind of pressure, though.”

As for the former Jets’ fullback, he knows all about pressure in the NFL. The three-time Pro Bowler played 16 years in the NFL, spending his final three years with the Jets. His elite (yet understated) career would see him selected to the NFL’s 2000s All-Decade Team. Richardson was a big part in Rex Ryan’s “Ground and Pound” rushing attack, helping the Jets get to back-to-back AFC championship games.
