Veteran New York Jets safety Chuck Clark has a lot to prove
A veteran defender on the New York Jets is ready to prove the detractors wrong in 2024.
In his media availability on Tuesday, safety Chuck Clark spoke about his mentality heading into the 2024 season.
“I still have a chip on my shoulder. I think going through that injury process gave me a new gratitude and gratefulness for this game. So, I still have a lot to prove. People are like, ‘He missed the whole year, he lost a step.’ Yeah, alright. Watch,” said Clark.
The veteran also spoke about his recovery, saying that he was cleared “around the seven-month mark” and is fully practicing now. He also said it “meant a lot” that the Jets wanted to bring him back in 2024.
Safety is arguably the most wide-open position on the Jets’ defense. As a result, Clark has a great opportunity to make an impact. According to head coach Robert Saleh, Clark will compete against Tony Adams and Ashtyn Davis for one of the Jets’ two starting safety spots.
With 63 career starts for the Ravens’ elite defense, Clark has proven himself to be a consistent and secure tackler, cleaning up plays in space all over the field. He brings a skillset that the Jets have been lacking at safety for multiple years.
It remains to be seen if Clark can contribute at a high level in 2024. But if he can give the back end of the defense consistency, the Jets could be in an even better spot than before.
