Sauce Gardner squashed the lazy Aaron Rodgers narratives
A star New York Jets player has had enough of the Aaron Rodgers discourse.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), cornerback Sauce Gardner defended the star quarterback’s absence from the team’s mandatory minicamp.
“Are y’all really making a big deal because a 15+ year HOF QB missed 2 days of practice after being with the team all throughout Phase 1, 2, & 3 of OTA’s?? GG’s.”

Gardner’s comment is essential context added to the recent Aaron Rodgers discourse. Many reporters have chimed in on the situation, calling out Rodgers for being a distraction to the team and openly speculating about his absence affecting New York. Some have gone even further, linking the situation to continued dysfunction for the Jets or openly questioning head coach Robert Saleh’s leadership ability.
As a player who has consistently been in the building this offseason, Gardner’s opinion on Rodgers should be considered the most important. He has had a front-row seat to the quarterback’s process and mentality leading the team in the offseason. And going off his most recent post, Gardner has no issue with Rodgers missing practice. In his eyes, the situation is not a big deal or something to make any fuss about.
Ultimately, the situation is one that has been created externally. Through a combination of Rodgers’s personality and the reputation of the Jets, a non-story has been blown up.
The Rodgers situation only reinforces the fact that the narrative of the Jets being dysfunctional persists in the media. It will be up to the quarterback and the star cornerback Garnder, among others, to change it for the better this season.
