Former New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has put a ring on it, and many of his former teammates provided thoughts on the matter.
Wilson, 24, announced in an Instagram post on Sunday that he and girlfriend Nicolette Dellanno had gotten engaged. The couple posted photos of the two on the Amalfi Coast, where Wilson encapsulated his feelings with words:
“To the love of my life, I never truly understood what love was until I met you,” Wilson wrote. “You’re not just my partner, but my best friend and my everything. I can’t wait to make a lifetime of memories with you.”
Despite Wilson’s former Jet status, the BYU product’s former Florham Park, NJ teammates commented on the post. Breece Hall, Brandin Echols, Quinnen Williams, Garrett Wilson, Michael Carter II and Alijah Vera-Tucker all offered support and congratulations.
Former Jets Meckhi Becton, Braxton Berrios, Michael Carter, Jeff Smith, C.J. Uzomah, Justin Hardee and Javelin Guidry also expressed their positive feelings.
New York Jets fans expected Zach Wilson to be the next franchise quarterback, but that obviously did not materialize. Wilson failed to take off his rookie season, going 3-10, being sacked 44 times, and throwing 11 interceptions.
After trading for Aaron Rodgers, fans expected Wilson to develop behind the future Hall of Famer. That also did not happen, as Wilson failed to answer the bell after he was thrown back into the fire just four plays into the 2023 season.
Wilson finished with a 4-7 win-loss record in 2023, a season he was benched throughout. Things turned from bad to worse when reports surfaced that the kid was “reluctant” to play in December.
By the end of the 2023 season, it was clear the Jets were ready to move on from Wilson. However, the Jets held onto Wilson until the week of the 2024 NFL draft. That was until they finally traded Wilson and a 2024 seventh-round pick (which turned out to be offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo) in exchange for a sixth-round pick.
In 34 career games, Wilson has thrown for 6,293 yards and 23 touchdowns with a 73.2 passer rating.
Wilson is arguably the biggest draft bust in New York Jets history, considering the Joe Douglass regime tabbed him No. 2 overall in 2021.
