Outside of Garrett Wilson, the rest of the New York Jets’ receiving corps is up in the air
That kid’s amazing! Amazing!
Joe Buck exclaimed in awe when Garrett Wilson made the best catch of the 2023 season — in Week 1. Wilson is, indeed, amazing, even if his fantasy stats don’t show it.
The New York Jets’ problem is everyone else.
Joe Douglas did his best to shore up the receiving corps, adding Mike Williams as a free agent and trading up to select Malachi Corley. Ostensibly, Allen Lazard is at best No. 4 on the depth chart, something Jets fans hoped to see.
Still, Williams is 30 and coming off an ACL tear. Corley comes from a small school and ran a minimal route tree there. Lazard has a long-standing relationship with Rodgers. Xavier Gipson still exists.
What can Jets fans realistically expect from their receiving corps? Jet X’s newest member, Connor Long, joined The Score Boord Podcast to discuss. In this long-form show, we dug as deeply as possible into the pass-catching group, exploring different scenarios.
Among the topics we addressed:
- Does Garrett Wilson have a 10-touchdown season in him?
- Is Mike Williams the clear No. 2 receiver, or will Aaron Rodgers spread the ball around?
- Can Xavier Gipson be a starting slot receiver?
- Are Jets fans expecting too much from Malachi Corley in Year 1?
- Will Lazard have a bigger role than just the No. 4 receiver?
- How do Breece Hall and Tyler Conklin fit into the mix?
Connor and I didn’t always agree, which is what makes podcasts with guests entertaining.
