ESPN ranked the New York Jets’ under-25 talent
In their rankings of under-25 talent on NFL rosters, ESPN placed the New York Jets at 11th overall. They ranked behind the Seattle Seahawks and ahead of the Indianapolis Colts.
ESPN’s Aaron Schatz explained the Jets’ ranking in their blurb in the article.
“The Jets will likely fall significantly down this list next year because so much of their under-25 value comes from Gardner and Wilson, the 2022 defensive and offensive Rookies of the Year, respectively. Both players will turn 25 during training camp in 2025. Gardner has 132 tackles, one forced fumble, and two interceptions in his first two seasons. Wilson has 2,145 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his two seasons.
“Beyond those two, the Jets get youthful value from starting center Joe Tippmann and running back Breece Hall. First-round offensive tackle Olu Fashanu likely won’t start as a rookie, but he doesn’t turn 22 until December.”
Similar to the team’s PFF rankings, the Jets’ placement on this list makes a good amount of sense. They dropped from the No. 4 ranking in 2023, mainly due to Jermaine Johnson and Alijah-Vera-Tucker graduating.
With Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, and Breece Hall in the fold, though, the Jets still have one of the best young cores on offense. Add in Joe Tippmann, Olu Fashanu, and Malachi Corley, and it becomes that much better.
Veterans such as Tyron Smith and Aaron Rodgers are critical for 2024 success. However, when it comes to sustained future success, the young core is the most important, and the Jets’ collection of young players must continue thriving to solidify the team’s long-term outlook.
