Haason Reddick may have hinted at his plans for New York Jets training camp
One of the biggest training camp questions for the New York Jets is the participation of Haason Reddick. The former Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher skipped OTAs and mandatory minicamp in search of a new contract. That led to heavy speculation about whether he may stage a holdout or hold-in during camp.
That’s why, when Reddick hosted a youth football camp in Camden, New Jersey on Saturday, July 13, he raised many eyebrows by donning a Jets shirt.
Would Reddick really wear Jets colors if he planned on holding out of training camp?
Of course, the answer could be yes. Reddick knows he will be playing with the Jets this season. He has little chance of landing another lucrative contract in 2025 if he misses games in 2024. His play is to try to force the Jets’ hand into paying him as much money as possible before the season begins.
Reddick is unlikely to hold out of camp altogether, as players face a mandatory $50,000-per-day fine for missing training camp practices. However, he could hold in, where he attends camp but does not practice. This has become a more common protest tactic for NFL players in recent seasons.
The Jets need Reddick in full form in 2024. He is their starting edge rusher opposite Jermaine Johnson. The team saw Bryce Huff sign with the Eagles in the offseason, and they also traded John Franklin-Myers to the Broncos. To replace that production, they will be seeking another season of 10+ sacks and 2+ forced fumbles from Reddick.
Jets veterans report to training camp on Tuesday, July 23. Rookies already reported on July 18.
