The newly acquired pass rusher will reportedly be holding out from the start of training camp
One of the New York Jets’ main offseason additions is holding out of training camp.
According to Jordan Schultz, edge rusher Haason Reddick will not report to the start of the team’s training camp. He is waiting for an extension, prompting him to miss the team’s previous summer workouts.

Even with a potential holdout looming, the Reddick situation seems pretty straightforward on the surface.
He wanted a new contract with the Eagles, which prompted him to be shipped to the Jets. That demand has not changed with his new team, causing the holdout. On the other hand, the Jets are in a tight spot financially, as they will have to pay most of their key contributors in the coming years. In a win-now window, they want to utilize Reddick but cannot immediately cave to his demands.
While the situation is straightforward, how the Jets and Reddick arrived here is not.
According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, Reddick told people “in the building he planned on attending the offseason program — with or without a deal.” He also added that Reddick understood that the Jets would “rework the current deal by adding incentives, converting non-GTD to GTD, but weren’t ripping it up.”

Fines much more significant during training camp v minicamp. They also had made it clear where they stood on a new contract.

It is fair to ask why the Jets traded for Reddick if they had no intention of extending him and knew he was a potential holdout. It is also fair to ask what made Reddick change his mind on reporting to the team.
Ultimately, this situation will be resolved for both sides. The Jets need Reddick’s contributions on defense, while Reddick needs to play this season in order to get the contract he desires.
Until then, though, it is a distraction for a team that needs to focus solely on winning in 2024.
