On the first day of training camp, multiple members of the New York Jets addressed the media

The long wait is officially over!

Football season is starting to ramp up for the New York Jets, as all players officially reported to training camp on Tuesday. As usual, some players spoke to the media to detail what they expect when heading into camp and for the season in general.

Tight end Tyler Conklin spoke about the team’s excitement about reporting back to the facility and getting to work.

“I think everybody is excited to get back and play football again. We left on a really good note with the offseason and OTAs, and everybody is excited to be around each other again. I think that’s one of the more special things about this team. We enjoy being around each other, we enjoy being in the locker room, we enjoy hanging out. The vibes are high. ”

The tight end also addressed the Aaron Rodgers minicamp story that dominated headlines, saying that the team was not concerned about it.

“I don’t think anyone batted an eye about it in the locker room. It was a fun media story.”

Linebacker C.J. Mosley, when asked about Haason Reddick not being in attendance for the start of training camp, said that contract discussions do not affect the locker room.

“When you deal with contracts and things like that, it doesn’t really get to the locker room because we don’t control that. When he does get here, then we will be able to have our two cents to say. But we know he is a pro. He’s been at the highest level of competition, so I’m sure he will be ready to roll whenever that gets worked out.”

The veteran also discussed expectations, saying that they always “stay the same” and that the Jets players can only control their “attitude” and how “hard they work every single day.”

Star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams echoed Mosley’s sentiments on Reddick during his Tuesday media availability.

“Haason is a great person, both on and off the field. A great teammate and a great talent when it comes to pass-rushing and run-stuffing. I was in his position last year. I know how the organization works; I know how Joe Douglas, Coach Saleh, and all of those guys work. Knowing him personally, as a great competitor and a guy that wants to win championships here, I know they will get everything ironed out.”

Williams also spoke about the standard he holds himself to as a player and how the team sets a standard for itself.

“My standard is excellence. Greatness, excellence, every single day. The standard as a defense is greatness and excellence every single day. And the team is the same thing. We have a great quarterback who sets the standard every day he comes in here…he sets it every day for the whole team and us as other leaders to carry it on.”

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson spoke about his improvements over the offseason, mentioning how he worked to get “faster” and “understand” the knowledge of the game.

“Now you know the offense. How can you take it to the next step? You get to spend more time focusing on other things. So, now I study the defense and how they want to attack Aaron (Rodgers).”

Many of the Jets’ players seem confident in their mentalities and the overall team heading into training camp. Watching how they evolve and develop throughout training camp practices will be interesting, which kick off in a matter of days.
