Robert Saleh talked up the New York Jets’ offensive line on Thursday
The head coach of the New York Jets is very encouraged by the offensive line’s performance so far.
During his press conference on Thursday, Robert Saleh discussed the overall unit’s play up to this point in the offseason.
“The O-line is always the engine that gets the car moving. Obviously, you have all of the other parts. But the O-line is the engine. We have depth. Really excited about the guys we have in that room. Even more so, I just love the mentality of the group. They’re all here, they all want to work, and they’re willing to do extra. You can’t ask for much more than that.”
Saleh said he expects Alijah Vera-Tucker and Morgan Moses to return to practice soon, and he also spoke about what makes Tyron Smith dominant.
“He plays so well with his length. He has ridiculous length, and he plays so well with his hands. He is always making first meaningful contact and keeping people off of his body. When you can do that, you do not need pads,” said Saleh.
“He is a technician, he is savvy, he is violent, and he is powerful. He is also a wonderful teammate.”
With all of the upgrades made to the unit, it is good to see the investments already paying off. Aaron Rodgers was not consistently pressured during practice, which allowed him to operate at his expected elite level. Tyron Smith played a major role in that, as well as Max Mitchell on the opposite side.
Pads are not on yet, so it is difficult to get a full gauge of the battles in the trenches But if this production level can translate to real game action, the Jets offense could be one of the best in team history.
