This ESPN analyst made a funny bet concerning the New York Jets
One of the most well-known New York Jets fans out there is ESPN’s Mike Greenberg. “Greeny” at times expresses his heartbreak over the Jets in interesting ways.
This time, Greenberg made a friendly wager on The Pat McAfee Show.
“Anything you want to wager, I will wager that Davante Adams is a Jet by Halloween and Haason Reddick starts the season Week 1 in San Francisco,” Greeny told McAfee.
McAfee was hyped. He got Greeny to promise he would dress as McAfee, tank top and all, if those things don’t happen. The show would include McAfee’s co-hosts.
A.J. Hawk asked Greeny why he’s so confident Reddick will be there for Week 1.
“Because both sides need each other,” Greeny responded. “There’s a theory called Occam’s Razor, which is that the most likely explanation for anything is usually the explanation. Haason Reddick needs to get paid and the New York Jets need him.”
Greeny added that trading for Reddick in an all-in year and then letting salary cap considerations get in the way makes no sense: “It would be inconsistent with everything they’ve done.”
About Adams coming to the Jets, Greeny pointed to the Raiders’ likely poor season and said, “It just makes sense.” McAfee responded ironically, “Yeah, if you’re a Jets fan it certainly makes sense.”
He went on to express hope that Adams ends up with the Jets for a simple reason. “Hopefully that comes to fruition because none of us want to travel to New York.” That’s what would happen if Greeny loses the bet.
Like most Jets fans, Greeny is highly optimistic about the team’s chances in 2024. Time will tell if he’s forced to fulfill his end of the wager — and if the Jets can win despite that.
