Things seem to be trending in a positive direction for Haason Reddick and the New York Jets
New York Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick is yet to report to training camp due to a contract holdout. But there is hope he could arrive sooner than later.
On Saturday, NFL insider Josina Anderson shared in a post on X (formally Twitter) that talks between the Jets and Reddick have “positively” progressed this week, and there is “hope” Reddick will report to camp soon.
I’m told Haason Reddick's talks with the #Jets progressed positively this week and as of earlier today there's recent hope that Reddick's presence and acclimation process with the team is approaching, per sources. This is not the only report showing progress in talks. Rich Cimini of ESPN said he “wouldn’t be surprised if Reddick is practicing with the team on Monday.”
The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional 2026 third-round pick. The Temple product is entering the final season of his current contract.
Reddick is in line to receive a base salary of $14.3 million in 2024, of which none is guaranteed. Connor Hughes of SNY reported that the Jets are open to adjusting Reddick’s current deal (increasing the guaranteed money and adding incentives) but want to see him perform first before discussing a long-term deal.
Reddick and the Eagles agreed to a three-year, $45 million contract in March 2022. His $15 million average annual salary is tied with Uchenna Nwosu of the Seattle Seahawks for 19th among all edge defenders.
Per Hughes, the two-time Pro Bowler is seeking a deal in the $25-$28 million range. That would make Reddick between the fifth and sixth highest-paid edge rusher.
Reddick earned a spot on the Pro Bowl roster in each of the past two seasons. Reddick also finished fourth in 2022 Defensive Player of the Year votes after recording a 16-sack season with six forced fumbles.
The two-time Pro Bowler has surpassed double-digit sacks in each of the past four seasons. Most notably, the Temple product has recorded 50.5 sacks over the past four seasons, which ranks fourth among all players over that span. He also leads the league with 13 forced fumbles over this stretch.
Reddick looks to earn his fifth consecutive double-digit sack season in 2024.
