During his press conference, Robert Saleh gave updates on some injured New York Jets players
While dealing with some injuries, the New York Jets do not have anything serious to worry about.
During his Wednesday press conference, head coach Robert Saleh discussed the current injuries to the Jets, namely about cornerback Michael Carter II and wide receiver Allen Lazard.
“He (Carter II) is dealing with an ankle. It shouldn’t be a long-term deal, but I should have a better idea the next time I see you. Lazard is dealing with camp soreness, so we tried to manage him today.”
Injuries are to be expected in football, especially in the early days of training camp. The goal is to minimize them and escape camp without catastrophic injuries that completely upend the season before it begins. Luckily for the Jets, that does not seem to be the case for Carter II and Lazard.
Both players, to varying degrees, are important to the team’s 2024 season.
Carter II is one of the best slot cornerbacks in the league, able to cover all types of routes and make tackles consistently in space to minimize damage. He helps to form arguably the best cornerback room in the league with D.J. Reed and Sauce Gardner.
While Lazard may not consistently start for the Jets, he is in line to be a big situational player on offense. He has the size to thrive on third downs and in the red zone. Aaron Rodgers also trusts him as a player, meaning that he will be counted on in critical situations.
It is positive to hear that both players are relatively healthy and not in danger of missing significant time. New York needs all hands on deck for 2024 as they push to break their long-standing playoff drought.
