The New York Jets’ head coach discussed the team’s early offensive struggles
Robert Saleh is not worried about the New York Jets offense.
During the head coach’s press conference on Tuesday, Saleh addressed the struggles the offense has had at the start of padded practices. He said that the “execution” is cleaner with guys doing their jobs, but they have to win their matchups now.
Saleh added that the matchups have been “competitive” and that the offensive and defensive lines have each won days, specifically highlighting the team’s running game as positive. He also stressed that it is very early and that the team has time to improve.
“We’re very, very early. It’s July 30th. There’s plenty of time to evaluate the one-on-one aspect of it. There’s a lot of installation going in, so there’s still a lot of thinking going on with regard to the playbook,” said Saleh.
“I’m not concerned about one area or the other. We are installing, teaching, and fine-tuning our techniques. I’ll start worrying after the Giants preseason game.”
While one could nitpick some of the team’s issues, Saleh is right in this situation.
The Jets have a long runway until the start of the regular season and still have over a week until their first preseason action. There is plenty of time for Aaron Rodgers, Joe Tippmann, and others to work out their issues and get the offense rolling at full speed.
Installing and building an NFL offense is complicated, even for the greats. Practice and plenty of repetition are necessary for success.
New York may not be in its final form yet, but with so much time to reach it, fans should not be worried about the slow start.
