Haason Reddick wants out of the New York Jets. According to multiple reports, Reddick has requested a trade.

The request comes as Reddick and the Jets are at a continued impasse in contract negotiations. Reddick wants a deal to make him one of the highest-paid edge rushers in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Jets are intent on letting the season play out first.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Eagles for a conditional third-round pick back in March. According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, they made their position clear when they initially traded for him.

It is the worst possible outcome for New York, as they added Reddick to replace Bryce Huff. However, Joe Douglas released a statement indicating that the Jets will not trade Reddick.

Reddick has now held out of training camp for three weeks and lost over $1 million in fines, in addition to the $100,000 he was fined for missing mandatory minicamp.

While the Jets have the reputation of a deep edge rush room around the NFL, their depth is thin behind Reddick. Micheal Clemons has been taking Reddick’s starting snaps in their base defense in training camp, and Will McDonald didn’t look like an every-down player in his limited preseason action. The only other players the Jets have at the position are Takk McKinley, who’s trying to make a comeback after not playing in the NFL in 2023, and undrafted free agents Eric Watts and Braiden McGregor.

Things could get ugly from here on out. Is Reddick willing to miss regular season games? If he held out past Week 8, his contract would toll, leaving him in the same position for another year. If he waited until Week 8 to play, though, it could do significant damage to the Jets’ defense. He could also potentially report and sit out with a fabricated injury, allowing his contract to toll.

Jets X-Factor will continue to monitor the situation.
