He may be a rookie, but Malachi Corley does not seem fazed by the NFL level so far.

During his Thursday media availability, the New York Jets’ rookie wide receiver spoke about his first playing experience during last week’s preseason game.

“I really took it in, the experience and atmosphere, realizing that’s the pinnacle of your dreams as a kid, you always wanted to play in the NFL. And for me to finally go out into MetLife Stadium and really soak in that atmosphere and just be a part of something so special like that. And then just being a part of the game, a game that we played since kids,” said Corley.

Corley also spoke about the differences between the NFL and college football.

“Physicality of the game is still the same. You know, guys are a lot smarter, a lot more heads up, but the speed of the game, physicality of the game, are all the same. And I’m just adapting and getting my feet wet in it.”

Corley spoke about his route running, mentioning how he “fell in love” with perfecting his craft and that it has been “really fun” working on his different releases. He also spoke about his specific running style and how he enjoys being physical.

“Honestly, you know, even in the run game, I didn’t get too many reps [in the first preseason game] to put my hands on guys and show off my physicality. That’s what I look forward to doing every single day,” said Corley.

“Hopefully, this game, I get a lot more burn and really get to show off my physicality, and really just play a full game and get myself in shape going into San Francisco. I want to just show guys what I’m all about as far as physicality goes.”

In 2024, Corley will play a significant role in the offense. He may not be an immediate starter, but his explosive playmaking ability has and will force the Jets to implement specific plays and packages for their rookie. As he develops, that role will only increase.

The Western Kentucky product has the mentality to succeed and a motivated wide receiver room to help push him. This combination, along with Aaron Rodgers being at quarterback, should help acclimate Corley quickly. Once he becomes a mainstay of the offense, Corley will have no issue impacting games and helping the Jets secure victories in 2024.
