Heading into the last week of the preseason, the New York Jets are dealing with minor injuries on their defense.
During his media availability, head coach Robert Saleh said cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse and safety Isaiah Oliver would be out for the rest of training camp but that the Jets “should have them back for Week 1.” Bernard-Converse left Saturday’s game against the Panthers with a groin injury.

Additionally, Saleh said that defensive lineman Leki Fotu is out for the rest of camp with a hamstring injury. Cornerback Michael Carter II is still dealing with his injury, but Saleh said the injury is “day-to-day.”
“We will see how it looks by the end of the week, whether or not we can get him back into practice,” Saleh said of Carter II. “But he is getting a lot closer.”
In non-defensive news, wide receiver and special teams player Irvin Charles is expected to return for the Jets on Tuesday or Wednesday. Regarding wide receiver Mike Williams, Saleh said he is “progressing well” and spoke about him working back into practice.
“Right now, for him, it’s continuing to gain confidence,” Saleh said of Williams. “It’s going to be more of a mental block than anything else. But I think he is doing well.”
Even with some of their depth pieces and starters injured, the Jets need not worry about anything too serious. Whether it is Benard-Converse, Carter II, or even Williams, all their injured players will likely be ready to contribute in Week 1 or even before.
The most important thing for the Jets is to make it to the regular season as healthy as possible. Even with a few minor injuries, New York is right on schedule for being at full strength to face the 49ers in Week 1.
