Very few people predicted that New York Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick would still be holding out on August 24. Reddick has held out for over three months and nothing has been resolved.
On Friday, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that she has heard the current mindest of the Jets front office is that the situation will “work itself out.”
Following the Jets’ final training camp practice on Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN revealed what could be an important date for the Jets and Reddick and that fans should keep their eyes on. Cimini stated,”I would think September 2nd of 3rd are important days to watch out for. Those are the pressure points when these holdouts typically end. If it doesn’t end by then, [Reddick will] probably go into the regular season, and anything is possible.”
If Cimini’s projection is accurate, the Jets have about 10 days to figure something out with Reddick. If we are having this same conversation when the Jets begin practicing for Week 1, Reddick’s holdout will likely drag into the regular season.
The good news for the Jets is that if Reddick were to hold out for the entirety of the 2024 season, the Jets would still have Reddick under contract for the 2025 season. Because of this, the Jets have all the leverage in the current situation.
According to SNY, Reddick is rumored to be demanding a multi year extension in the range of $25-28 million per year.
The Jets have made it clear that they have no interest in engaging in extension talks until Reddick shows up to Florham Park, and Reddick has made it clear he has no interest in showing up to Florham Park without a contract. We remain in a gridlock situation between Reddick and the Jets.
