Adam Rank picked the Jets to win 28-21, while the other nine analysts picked the Jets to lose by an average of six points. It’s not a surprise that the 49ers are favorites after playing in the Super Bowl. However, the staff may want to check their notes as they made several mistakes in their preview.
First, they showed that Jermaine Johnson only had 3.5 sacks in 2023 when he actually finished with 7.5. It seems they may have got the number from John Franklin-Myers, who’s now with the Denver Broncos.
Next, while discussing the addition of Javon Kinlaw, the graphic showed Clelin Ferrell. Both are defensive linemen selected in the first round who played with the 49ers in 2023 and finished with 3.5 sacks, so maybe this mix-up is more understandable.
To finish it off, they incorrectly state that Mike Williams played four games instead of three in the 2023 season. Williams’ stat line of 19 receptions for 249 yards sounds much better in three games than in four.
They may want to double-check their notes before making game predictions.
It’s fun to call them out, but the monologue did, in fact, have the correct information, even if the graphics didn’t match. Still, it’s funny just how much they got wrong for the first game of the season. Better luck next time. The Jets, meanwhile, will aim to prove the prediction panel wrong.
