Joe Douglas has not changed his stance on Haason Reddick.
During his Thursday morning media availability, the New York Jets’ general manager spoke about the situation surrounding the absent edge rusher.

“I mean, I think we’ve been clear from the outset of, hey, let’s get here, and then let’s talk. So, you know, obviously, again, I want to reiterate the respect I have, but, you know, I don’t have the benefit of just dealing with one person and one agent. And so, you know, many decisions you make reverberate through the locker room and have a ripple effect in the locker room. So to me, that is and will always be the most important thing.”
Douglas added that Reddick will not be traded and elaborated on whether there have been conversations with Reddick and his camp.
“I wouldn’t say we’ve stopped communications. There hasn’t been a recent conversation. But no, the phone lines are open at this point.”
Douglas also expressed confidence in the team’s roster and defensive line unit.
“We’ve got big Mike, and you know, he’s such a great teammate, plays with great strain, effort and violence. We’ve added some good young talent to the room. So, we still feel great about our D-line depth as a whole. A lot of that has to do with the way that we’ve brought in some of these guys in the way that Robert and Brich and Aaron have developed a lot of these guys to have this many quality active roster players as a credit to them and our scouting staff.”
Overall, the press conference did not reveal anything new.
The Jets stand firm on their side of the situation, while Reddick has not budged from his position. Both sides have been in the same holding pattern since the beginning of training camp.
Ultimately, this situation will need to be resolved, though. The Jets need Reddick, and Reddick needs the Jets. Without each other, neither side will be able to accomplish their goals.
It just comes down to who will cave first and choose to mend the fences. Regardless of who it is, the situation needs to be resolved swiftly to avoid dragging into the regular season.
