The former arch-nemesis of the New York Jets has… praised them? Yes, you heard that correctly.

In a clip from his new Underdog Fantasy show, former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick raved over Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, and the Jets offense.

“The Jets are one of the hardest teams to prepare for from a skill standpoint because of Breece Hall. He is an outstanding running back who can take the ball the distance. He is very good in the passing game. Defensively, you want to do everything you can to take the ball out of his hands and load the box,” said Belichick.

“Problem is, if you load the box, you’re singled out there on (Garrett) Wilson. And that’s a tall order right there to deal with him in one-on-one coverage. His run after the catch is exceptional.”

Additionally, Belichick said Rodgers “will know” how to use Hall and Wilson and understand how to attack different defenses with them. He also said the Jets’ offense has a “good offense” on paper and is “hard to defend.”

Considering Belichick’s very long and complicated history with the Jets, it is strange to hear him praise the team. His usually crotchety demeanor and attitude toward the team have been replaced with a more level-headed and analytical one.

It will be very interesting to see how the legendary coach’s perspective on the Jets evolves over the 2024 season. Ahead of an important season that could end New York’s playoff drought, it seems that one of their biggest detractors could become one of their bigger fans.
