Joe Douglas and the Jets’ front office did a great job getting the Carter extension done a year earlier than necessary.
Unlike the Bryce Huff situation, which saw the Jets wait until the last possible moment to truly negotiate, the Jets were proactive. They understood how talented Carter II was and what he meant to their defense; additionally, they seemingly understood that waiting to pay Carter II could be harmful to their defense in 2025 and beyond.
Carter II has earned his payday across three seasons with the Jets. The Duke product is a lockdown slot cornerback, shutting down all types of players who line up against him. He has also steadily improved his entire game year after year, whether it is in coverage or as a tackler.
Most importantly, he fits perfectly with the Jets’ defense’s athletic, aggressive, and fast style. He is an ideal complement to Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed, which allows them to form arguably the best cornerback trio in football.
Heading into 2024, Carter II does not have to worry about his future financial security. With his only focus now on football, Carter Ii is in a position to help the Jets start fast in 2024.
