Recently, rising New York Jets defensive tackle Jowon Briggs was named to Pro Football Focus’ All-Seventh Round Team entering the 2026 season. Briggs had outstanding numbers with outstanding film to boot in a breakout 2025 campaign.

But Briggs isn’t the only up-and-coming Jet who was overlooked on draft weekend.

PFF released its All-UDFA Team, and Jets punter Austin McNamara made the team.

It’s arguably the most competitive spot on the list, considering that many starting punters in the NFL were undrafted. But McNamara took the cake after a sublime 2025 campaign, his first as an NFL starter after entering the league in 2024.

“At punter, Austin McNamara lacks the extended track record of candidates such as AJ Cole, but his first season as a starter made a strong case,” writes PFF. “McNamara led all undrafted punters in PFF grade (90.3) and average hang time (4.70 seconds). He saw plenty of work behind the Jets’ offense, and that volume only strengthened his rรฉsumรฉ. If that performance carries forward, McNamara has a clear path to becoming one of the league’s most effective punters.”

McNamara was among the core pieces of a Jets special teams unit that placed itself among the best in NFL history. According to FTN Fantasy, the Jets’ special teams unit earned a DVOA rating of 10.3%, the fifth-best mark of all time.

New York’s punting unit was a driving force in that success, leading the NFL with a 15.5% punting DVOA. McNamara, with excellent hang time (4.70) and accuracy, worked in tandem with a fantastic coverage team to consistently pin opponents deep and prevent big returns. McNamara allowed just 21 of his 71 punts to be returned, and those returns averaged just 6.3 yards, the second-best mark in the league.

Most people would joke that the Jets’ punter is their best player because he sees the field so often. In this case, though, McNamara truly is one of the Jets’ best players, at least relative to his position. He is already one of the top punters in the NFL, and that would make him an asset for any team, whether they punt four times per game or twice.

The Jets are hoping they see him much less often in 2026, though.
