The New York Jets’ Week 1 opponents are reaching full strength.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams is ending his holdout and reporting to the 49ers on Tuesday. While his deal is not officially signed, it is reportedly close enough for the All-Pro to be back at his team’s facility.

It is unclear if Williams will be ready for the Week 1 showdown against the Jets. However, the 49ers now have a much better chance to be at full strength on Monday night, as wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk signed his new deal last week.
Considering the speed with which San Francisco wrapped up its contract disputes with Williams and Aiyuk, it is clear that New York needs to get Haason Reddick in the building as soon as possible.
It does New York no good to have the stalemate drag into Week 1 of the regular season; New York needs to start fast in 2024 and have the best roster on the field to do so.
Without Reddick, New York runs the risk of not generating a consistent pass rush against the 49ers, especially with Williams back in the fold. And without a consistent pass rush, the Jets’ chances of pulling off the upset will decrease.
It makes little sense for Reddick and the Jets to have their stubbornness cost the team games in the regular season. Ultimately, both sides need to take a page out of their opponent’s playbook and hammer out an agreement to get the star pass rusher on the field for the Week 1 matchup.
