The statuses of Reed and Clemons are new developments for the Jets. Ahead of the practice, head coach Robert Saleh said that he expected all of the injured players to practice in full. The only player limited was supposed to be Javon Kinlaw, who missed practice due to the birth of his child.
Saleh stated, “D.J. (Reed), Micheal Clemons, Michael Carter (II), Tyron (Smith), everyone will be full. The only limited player will be Javon Kinlaw. He just returned, so we’ll put him through some workouts and stuff, but he’s expected to play.”
After Saleh’s comments, Reed was re-evaluated prior to practice and then downgraded.
If Clemons is inactive, more of the UDFA rookie defensive linemen on the roster may suit up. Leonard Taylor III could make his Jets debut, as could Eric Watts. Braiden McGregor may see a bigger role as well.
As for Reed, Brandin Echols would likely step in as the backup. Jarrick Bernard-Converse, who was a preseason standout, could also see some work during the game.
The Jets, after a Week 1 defeat, need to beat the Titans to get on track. If they are without Reed and a primary contributor on the defensive line, that may be a bit more difficult.
