Even though it is only Week 2, the New York Jets are at a critical point of their season.
In a vacuum, their Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers would not be a big deal. Kyle Shanahan is an offensive mastermind who can find the fault in any defense he faces. The 49ers have the talent on offense and defense to compete and beat almost every team in the NFL.
However, there were issues that could potentially reoccur throughout the season for New York.
The run defense was constantly gashed, whether due to missed tackles, missed assignments, or getting blown off the ball. On offense, the run blocking was poor, and the playcalling was subpar at best.
Week 1 left the Jets with a lot to be desired. Luckily for them, though, there is ample opportunity to rebound against the Tennessee Titans. They do not have the same coaching or talent level as the 49ers and will likely offer more room for success than the reigning NFC champions.
New York should be able to find more room to operate through the air on offense while also being more stingy in the yards they allow on defense.
It will not be an easy opponent, but the Jets are in a great position to get their season back on track.

Jets at Titans Game History
- Tennessee leads the all-time series over the Jets 25-20-1
The Titans and Jets have a lengthy history with each other, playing 45 times in the regular season and one time in the playoffs. Tennessee leads the all-time series 25-20, and the teams have tied once in their history.
In their last four matchups, the Jets are 4-1 against the Titans. Their last loss was in 2018, when the Jets lost by a score of 26-22. In the team’s most recent matchup, the Jets won in overtime by a score of 27-24.
Zach Wilson was the winning quarterback, having two touchdowns on the day. This was also the game of the highlight-worthy throw from Wilson to Corey Davis, which went 53 yards for a touchdown.
Jets at Titans Odds (FanDuel Sportsbook)
- Spread: Jets -3.5 (-115), Titans +3.5 (-105)
- Moneyline: Jets -198, Titans +166
- Over/Under: 41.5 (O: -105, U: -115)
Ahead of their matchup, the Jets are listed as slight favorites. The spread is a slight -3.5 in favor of the Jets, as is the moneyline of -198.
These odds do make sense in the context of the matchup. The Jets are the more talented team between the two, but not by a wide margin. Hence, why the spread sits at -3.5.
The same goes for the moneyline; the Jets are not better than Tennessee by a wide margin, but they are projected to win the game.
As for the spread, Vegas seemingly predicts a low-scoring game on Sunday. Both teams are projected to score below 25 points each, aligning with how they performed on offense in Week 1.
Jets at Titans Injury Report
New York Jets
- CB D.J. Reed: Questionable (knee)
- DL Michael Clemons: Questionable (triceps)
The Jets have only two players on their injury report, but they are key contributors to the defense.
Reed is one of the best players within the entire unit. He always provides great coverage in the secondary and even can bring some value in the running game. If he is out on Sunday, players like Brandin Echols and Jarrick Bernard-Converse will have to pick up the production on the backend.
While not overly productive, Clemons is one of the defensive line’s main rotational pieces. Without him, the Jets would likely have to rely on Braiden McGregor, Takk McKinley, and potentially Eric Watts or Leonard Taylor II to step up
Tennessee Titans
- CB Chidobie Awuzie (Hip) – Limited on Friday
The Titans are relatively healthy heading into Week 2. Multiple players, from Awuzie to Jamal Adams to Peter Skoronski, were limited in practice during the week. However, no players are listed with injury designations, meaning Tennessee should be fully ready to roll on Sunday.
Jets at Titans Prediction
- New York Jets 24, Tennessee Titans 17
In all honesty, I have a weird feeling about this game. It seems like a game that the Jets of old would lose; coming off of a crushing defeat, they start slow and cannot recover enough to secure the victory.
However, I am opting to listen to my brain and not my gut in this scenario.
The Jets are the better team than Tennessee across the board. They have the pure talent to overcome deficiencies that would crush other teams in their situation.
Are the Jets coaches necessarily better than the Titans? No. But I am banking on Robert Saleh having his defense ready to roll after an embarrassing performance. I expect Aaron Rodgers to get the Jets’ offense to an even better position to build on their Week 1 flashes, regardless of Nathaniel Hackett’s ineptitude.
Quite frankly, the Jets have no other option than being ready to roll. If they lose in Week 2, the team could be approaching disaster territory, and they have to realize the reality of their situation.
Through a combination of banking on the team’s talent and assuming they will be playing with their heads on fire, I have the Jets narrowly defeating the Titans, 24-17.
