“Yeah, it was a really special night. All those chants are really meaningful. I was kind of hoping for a stop there to be able to take a final knee on the field, but yeah, it’s a special night.”
The quarterback also spoke about his play on the field, discussing his comfort level on Thursday.
“Yeah, it felt great. I was feeling really good out there. I felt good pregame, and I’ve been progressing. I said to you guys after Week 1 that it’s going to be a process of continuing to extend plays once I feel more comfortable. This was kind of the first step, and I played like I knew I was capable of playing. It felt like I was myself quite a few years ago.”
Rodgers also discussed his developing rapport with star wideout Garrett Wilson. Specifically, he explained why Wilson has not been as involved as expected.
“The entire focus of all three defenses we’ve played had been taking Garrett away. It’s been Mel Kiper’s worst nightmare, a lot of cover two. And there are times where you get one-high, and we try to go to him. But a lot of two high in all three games. There’s shading to him, even with good corners, look at (Charvarius) Ward in Week 1 and (L’Jarius) Sneed in Week 2 and Gonzales in Week 3 now. Not a lot of singles, so that’s a tribute to Garrett and his talent.”
It is very encouraging to hear that Rodgers is getting more and more comfortable in the Jets’ offense. He looked back to his prime version of himself on Thursday night, making plays out of structure and challenging defenses at all levels.
It is great to celebrate now, but it is clear that Rodgers is keeping the main goal in mind. He knows that he must improve in some aspects, mainly his connection with Garrett Wilson and the overall evolution of the offense.
If he continues his current trajectory, Rodgers will receive more chants from Jets fans going forward.
