In Aaron Rodgers’ eyes, the New York Jets’ first-round rookie is very similar to a team legend.
During his media availability on Wednesday, the team’s starting quarterback spoke about offensive tackle Olu Fahsanu.

“I don’t like to do a lot of comparisons, but I will in this case. From the beginning, I felt like he reminded me a lot of D’Brickashaw [Ferguson] personality-wise. And then just to consistency. I obviously didn’t play with Brick, but I know people that did. And I watched him from afar, and it always felt like he was just so consistent week in and week out, like he was not getting beat a lot.
“He was in the right place. He was good in the run game. He was good at pass blocking. It’s just never been too big for Olu. I feel like he’s been consistent every day. If he makes a mistake, he doesn’t make a repeat mistake. His attitude is very quiet. He just kind of goes about his business. So, I think he’s in a good spot. Obviously, he’s played a lot of left tackle, but he’s played right tackle for us in training camp on the Look team for the first three weeks. I’m very confident in Olu.”
The Jets will get to see Fashanu in his first extended action on Sunday, as he will start at right tackle in place of the injured Morgan Moses.
Fashanu has all of the skills needed to play tackle at a high level in the NFL. As a run blocker, he showed improvement throughout the preseason and in his regular season debut, using his size and leverage to beat defenders. As a pass blocker, the rookie looks natural and smooth at all times.
In most cases, the Jets would be in a bad position without Moses in the lineup. But with Fashanu in the fold, there is a great chance that the team’s offense does not miss a beat.
