Quinnen Williams knows he can play better.
The New York Jets’ star defensive tackle admitted that he hasn’t been as “special” over the first six weeks of the 2024 season.

“There are a lot of things I can key in on. There is disrupting the line of scrimmage. I feel like in the past, I haven’t been [as] special this year disrupting the line of scrimmage, like I can on run downs and different things like that. So that’s the that’s the main focus.”
Additionally, Williams spoke about defending the Steelers’ run defense when I asked him about the changes between facing Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
“They run the ball very well. And we haven’t been stopping the run lately at a high level. So, just doing the necessary things we can do as a defensive line, especially with dominating the line of scrimmage, making knockback upfront, and just being disruptive upfront, is a key thing that we talked about this week. Not just for Pittsburgh, but just in general and our own play and just being playmakers instead of placeholders,” said Williams.
“I feel like in the past, we’ve been placeholders, and now taking the next level to [constructive] criticism on being playmakers and moving forward is a great challenge.”
It is good to see that Williams, along with the defensive line as a whole, is focusing on dominating the line of scrimmage. The Jets need to play stronger up front, as teams have pushed them around too easily in the past few weeks.
Sunday’s game against the Steelers presents an excellent opportunity for the Jets’ defensive line, and specifically Williams, to get back on track. If he and his fellow linemen can follow through on their game plan, they should be able to lay the foundation for a successful remainder of the season.
