Ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Patriots, the New York Jets announced their inactive players.
Carter Warren and Israel Abanikanda have not been active much, if at all, this season, and that does not change this week. The injury bug also hit the team hard this week. Between Allen Lazard, Leki Fotu, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Tony Adams, and Ashtyn Davis, the Jets are missing key contributors on both sides of the ball.
As a result, different players will have to step up against New England.
Mike Williams will likely be featured in a primary role for the Jets today, especially in three-wideout sets. It will be a key game for the veteran to display his ceiling for the team and other teams possibly interested in trading for him.
Additionally, rookie Malachi Corley is active for the first time since Week 1. It remains to be seen if he will have any role to play for the Jets on Sunday, but he could provide a spark on offense or special teams.
On defense, Jalen Mills and Isaiah Oliver will need to hold down the fort in the safety room. Mills seeks to build off a strong performance against the Steelers, while Oliver will look to display his versatility.
Leonard Taylor III will likely have a chance to play in an increased capacity in New England. With another good performance, he could likely earn even more playing time for the rest for the 2024 season.
New York will have its depth heavily tested on Sunday. Great teams can overcome those obstacles, though, and the Jets will begin to find out if they are close to that level today.
