FLORHAM PARK, NJ – Three of the New York Jets’ team leaders addressed the media on Wednesday.
Most notably, quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed whether he plans to keep playing in 2025, saying, “I think so, yeah,” when asked if he still wants to play beyond the 2024 season.
Rodgers also discussed the team’s mindset going forward.
“You have to bring the same type of energy, the same type of focus and preparation. You have to set the standard with that. Once you dip your head, it gives everyone permission to do the same thing.”
The quarterback addressed whether he thinks he is playing at the level he expected to this season.
“I’m not playing as well as I want to play, for sure. The beauty of this game is that it is a team game. The frustrating part is if you are a great competitor, you hold yourself to a standard. It’s not unrealistic, and I have not reached that standard this year.”
During his media availability, wide receiver Garrett Wilson gave an honest assessment of where the team’s offense is at in Week 11.
“We need to clean up everything. There is a lot to learn from. Personally, I have to go out there and get more separation. I have to find a way to get out faster and play my part in helping us become the offense we hope we can become. Our window is dwindling, so we have to do it right away.”
The wideout also addressed the team’s expectations from the offseason, saying that despite thinking they had put the work in the offseason, “we are who we are” at 3-7.
Wilson discussed whether the team looks to Rodgers for leadership as they try to turn things around.
“He’s the quarterback, he’s the catalyst. You’re always looking at the quarterback to see what the plan is. But I don’t think he’s ever been in this position before either. We are all trying to figure this thing out together. We all have to look in the mirror. We can’t be looking at someone else to save us.”
Cornerback Sauce Gardner addressed his actions on social media from earlier this week, saying that he has to be “better” as a team leader and a leader on the defense. He also promised to “do everything in his power” to bring energy and be the best player he can be.
Gardner also addressed the tackling issues for the team and what the defense can do to fix them.
“We know how to tackle. That’s really it. We don’t need a presentation. As professional athletes, we have to make tackles.”
Like with Ulbrich, the Jets need to execute on the field. Words are meaningless until results back them up, and are empty if the results stay the same.
