According to multiple reports, the current starting quarterback of the New York Jets is not expected to return in 2025.
In the wake of Joe Douglas’s firing, ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that a source told him it would be a “shock” if Aaron Rodgers returned to the Jets in 2025.

Additionally, SNY’s Connor Hughes said it is “very clear” that the Jets plan to find a new quarterback.
“It’s very clear now that this organization is going to find a new quarterback. The Aaron Rodgers tenure with the Jets is going to be over. They’re not going to find a coach hand-picked by him. If you think about why he came here in the first place, he came here because Nathaniel Hackett was already here,” said Hughes.
“He didn’t want new, he didn’t want different. He didn’t want to be overly challenged, he wanted what he knew and what he was comfortable with. … In my opinion, after the year, whether it’s a cut or whatever, Aaron is going to be looking for another team to play for in 2025 that’s going to give him that familiarity.”
It is crystal clear that the Jets are, once again, heading toward a full-scale rebuild.
New York will have a new general manager, a new head coach, and likely a new quarterback. The Jets will have to figure out a new identity for the team going forward and determine how they want to build toward sustained organizational success.
Everything was supposed to be different in 2024 and in the Rodgers era. Instead, it has been more of the same dysfunction that has plagued the Jets throughout a playoff drought that has lasted for well over a decade.
