After his game-winning field goal against the Carolina Panthers, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Spencer Shrader explained why he chose to come to the defending champions over staying with the New York Jets.
“I wanted to be around an elite staff, elite players, everyone is very on top of things here. . . I’m gaining value just by being a part of this place, being a part of this organization.”

Additionally, Shrader spoke about how the Chiefs have helped him succeed quickly in a new situation.
“It’s been a whirlwind, for sure. But I think the thing that helps in that situation is that I’m around a group of true professionals. You come in and you have a snapper and a holder that are elite at what they do, and they’re trying to get you as comfortable as possible. And so every day is a learning experience,” said Shrader.
“You’re working on things, you’re refining your craft a little bit each day. But I couldn’t be around a better group, a better team, like everyone reaching out, trying to get you as comfortable as possible, to set you up for a situation like this. So yeah, there are growing pains and things to figure out, but I think it’s gone about as good as it can given the timeline, given the situation.”
To put it bluntly, these sentiments from Shrader should not be surprising.
The Jets, especially this season, have been dysfunctional from top to bottom. Whether it is firings, meddling, or just a simple lack of cohesion on the field, New York has lacked every hallmark of a stable organization.
On the other hand, the Chiefs have been built into a machine focused on winning. The team still has its problems and issues, but they have created a solid foundation in which the product on the field is the main focus.
New York should learn from Kansas City. With the right people and culture in place, the hope is that the Jets can eventually become a place where players compliment being there.
