The New York Jets return to playing football today, which may elicit different reactions from different people. At this point of the season, that is very understandable.

Coming off their bye week, New York will host the first-place Seattle Seahawks at MetLife Stadium. This game is important for Seattle in multiple ways, as they are contending for a playoff spot and the NFC West division title.

As for the Jets’ side of things, it is an essential matchup for overall team morale. New York needs to start fast off its bye to build any momentum for the rest of 2024. Additionally, players and coaches must prove they are worth keeping beyond this season, as the upcoming new regime looms large over the organization.

Can New York prevail off the bye week? Or will it be yet another loss in a lost season? Follow along as we preview this week’s matchup for the Jets.

Jets vs. Seahawks Game Info

  • New York Jets (3-8)
  • Seattle Seahawks (6-5)
  • 2024 NFL Week 13
  • Sunday, December 1st, 1:00 p.m. ET
  • FOX
  • MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

The calendar has turned to December, which means it is time for challenging and cold football. The forecast is calling for a temperature of 37 degrees at kickoff in East Rutherford.

New York will host Seattle for the first game of its December slate on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. The game will air on FOX, with the broadcast team of Adam Amin, Mark Sanchez, and Kristina Pink on the call. It will be another return to New York for Sanchez, who remains the last quarterback to lead the Jets to the playoffs.

The Jets will wear their alternate uniforms, which include their black helmets, black jerseys, and black pants for their showdown against the Seahawks.

Jets vs. Seahawks Game History

Over their matchup history, the Seahawks hold a slight advantage over the Jets.

In 21 games, Seattle holds serve with a 13-8 series lead. The last Jets victory over the Seahawks came in 2004, when the Jets beat them by a score of 37-14.

Since then, the Jets have lost five straight matchups to the NFC West-based team. Their last matchup came in the 2022 season, where the Jets lost to the Seahawks by a score of 23-6.

Jets vs. Seahawks Betting Odds (FanDuel Sportsbook)

Unlike previous weeks, the New York Jets are not favored for Sunday’s matchup.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jets are 1.5-point underdogs to the Seahawks. However, the moneyline is even, with both teams at -108 odds. The over-under sits at 42.5.

Due to the Seahawks’ traveling to the East Coast and the state of both teams, the sportsbook expects a close matchup on Sunday. It remains to be seen if the Jets can make good on FanDuel’s odds, as they have not done so for the majority of this season.

Jets vs. Seahawks Injury Report

New York Jets

  • OL Tyron Smith, Neck – Out
  • RB Breece Hall, Knee – Questionable
  • OL Jake Hanson, Hamstring – Questionable
  • OL Xavier Newman-Johnson, Concussion – Questionable
  • LB C.J. Mosley, Neck – Questionable
  • S Chuck Clark, Shin – Questionable

While the bye week has helped the Jets in some health aspects, they are still dealing with some key injuries.

Offensive tackle Tyron Smith has already been ruled out for this weekend and put on injured reserve. As a result, the Jets will turn to Olu Fashanu to hold down the left side for the rest of the 2024 season.

Running back Breece Hall is dealing with a knee injury but is expected to play. Any sort of hindrance for Hall would be a big blow to the Jets offense.

On defense, C.J. Mosley and Chuck Clark are both questionable. If New York is down both players on Sunday, the team will likely turn toward Jalen Mills and Jamien Sherwood as starters once more.

Seattle Seahawks

  • OT Stone Forsythe, Hand – Out
  • LB Uchenna Nwosu, Thigh – Out
  • TE Brady Russell, Foot – Questionable
  • S AJ Finley, Ankle – Questionable

The Seahawks have a long list of players with bumps and bruises, but only a few will carry designations into the game against the Jets.

Nwosu is the biggest absentee, meaning that other players along Seattle’s defensive line will have to step up. Otherwise, Seattle looks to be in a good position for its trip to the East Coast.

Jets vs. Seahawks Game Prediction

  • Seahawks win 24-10

To be fully transparent, I do not have much confidence in the Jets to play well in this game.

Breece Hall’s injury only adds more cloudiness to an offense dealing with a hampered Aaron Rodgers and overall inconsistencies. On the other side of the ball, the defense is dealing with run-stopping woes and miscommunications galore.

Seattle, unfortunately, presents a matchup that looks to expose New York’s biggest weaknesses. The defense, under head coach Mike Macdonald, is clicking on all cylinders and looks similar to his units in Baltimore. The offense has a great rushing attack with Kenneth Walker and explosive weapons to challenge secondaries down the field.

The Jets will have to look like a completely different team out of the bye if they want to win this one, and that might not even be enough.

I do not see much changing for the Jets on Sunday. Give me Seattle by a score of 24-10.
