The New York Jets will be without multiple key contributors for their divisional tilt against the Miami Dolphins.
Speaking at his Friday press conference, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said that running back Breece Hall and cornerback Sauce Gardner are both doubtful for this weekend’s game. He added that “barring something magical” happening before Sunday, they will not suit up against the Dolphins.
Additionally, the Jets are placing linebacker C.J. Mosley on injured reserve, effectively ending his 2024 season and possibly his tenure in New York. Ulbrich spoke more about the decision at his presser.
“A hard decision by a very prideful and amazing player and leader. He is all of those things for us, and it was not an easy decision for him. But it’s the best decision for him and our organization.”
Not having Breece or Sauce on Sunday is a devastating blow for an already-struggling Jets team. The backup corners will have to step up against the dangerous Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, which is as tough of a task as possible. Brandin Echols will likely step up for the start, aiming for his third career pick-six against Tua Tagovailoa.
On offense, Braelon Allen will likely draw his first start in the NFL. Isaiah Davis, who has impressed in his limited work, will likely see an increased role on Sunday as well.
For Mosley, it is a very unfortunate end to his season. He never got healthy enough to contribute to the Jets, and they felt the void of his leadership for most of the season.
Beyond the scope of the 2024 season, though, this could be the end of Mosley’s time in New York. He was one of the most important pieces in the Jets’ defensive turnaround; without his skill and leadership, the team would not have become a feared unit across the league.
