Frustrated Garrett Wilson chastises ‘loser’ Jets

At this point, there is not much to say for the New York Jets. Listening to the players after today’s game, they seem to be in the same spot.

Speaking after New York’s playoff-eliminating loss to the Miami Dolphins, Garrett Wilson, when asked about the Jets’ losing ways this season, said that “losing sucks” and voiced his frustrations about the team’s inability to close out games.

“When you’re up in the fourth quarter, suddenly it starts to feel like you have a losing problem. It’s like you have a gene or some s-t. So it’s not like we’re just going out there and getting our butt beat from start to finish. No, we have a chance to go win the game,” said Wilson.

“We’re supposed to win the game. The odds are in our favor, and we’re finding a way to lose the game. So it’s just frustrating for sure.”

The wideout added that the team’s mindset is right, but that “at the end of the day, we got to stop being losers.” Wilson then said, when asked about this season compared to the 2023 season he called the worst of his life, that he “doesn’t feel good about it.”

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers said that the offense can only control what they can control during the game.

“Yeah, we had chances, a lot of chances. We just got to look at the offense; that’s
what we can control. We’ve got to score touchdowns in the red zone. We have to get to 30. Obviously, that would have been short today – not in regulation, though. But we had our chances to get to 30 today, didn’t do it, and that’s why we lost.”

Rodgers also spoke about the team’s inability to close out games in 2024.

“There are a lot of reasons, like we said, for the different ways we’ve lost these
games. Everybody has some skin on that, but we had opportunities on offense. Whatever happens on defense doesn’t matter. We got to get to 30; we didn’t do it. We were efficient and pretty good on third down. Then, in the red zone, we stalled out too many times.”

Asked about the team’s playoff drought, the quarterback offered a short yet simple answer.

“I mean, I’ve been here — I’ve started one year. I’ve been part of it for one year.
It’s disappointing.”

Wideout Davante Adams spoke about staying focused during the midst of a brutal losing streak.

“You just have to compartmentalize and understand how this game goes. It’s really difficult to win. We’ve been really, really close too many times, so it’s almost more frustrating when you’re right there. But all you get to do is go and control how you play; you don’t get to control the score, complain about it, and cry about it later,” said Adams.

“You got to go, and you’ve got sixty minutes to figure it out, then once that sixty minutes is up, whoever’s got the most, they’re the team that will be the happiest. We’ve been on the other side of that a lot, it’s been frustrating but we just have to stay the course and keep going.”

From a human level, it is evidently tough for these players to deal with these losses consistently. Even when they play at a high level, the Jets cannot seem to finish strong and win the game when it matters. It is definitely taxing on them and takes a toll.

New York’s next opportunity to find a win will be against the Jaguars next weekend. To do so, they need to stay consistent and find a way to overcome the hurdles that have harmed them so far in 2024.
