Following back-to-back productive outings, including a thrilling 32-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the debate about Aaron Rodgers’ future with the New York Jets is heating up. However, WFAN’s Gregg Giannotti already sees a clear answer.
On his WFAN radio show “Boomer & Gio,” Giannotti lambasted “idiot” Jets fans who want Aaron Rodgers on the team for the 2025 season.
“The Jets fan who was hanging on to any sort of hope and then saw this yesterday, and it’s like, this is why you wanna think about running it back next year. Okay,” Gio said. “And the other argument that I love that people make is like, ‘Well, now Aaron Rodgers is fully healthy.’
“Oh, okay. So he’s fully healthy when they’re 4-10, and the majority of the time he’s been here, he’s been hurt, and he’s 41 years old, but let’s bring him back and hope that he’s healthy next year. Idiots.
Rodgers missed all but the first four plays of the 2023 season with an Achilles injury. While he has started every game for the Jets in 2024, various nagging injuries have affected his performance, according to Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich. Additionally, Rodgers spent the majority of the 2022 season playing through a thumb injury that he sustained in Week 5.
Giannotti argued that Rodgers’ injury-proneness is a reason to part ways with him, regardless of how good he looks when healthy.
“Just to think that, oh, this is what Aaron Rodgers looks like when he’s healthy. Well, guess what? He can’t stay healthy, and to assume that he’s gonna stay healthy next year is stupid, and you’re not going to compete even if he is healthy. You’re not competing with the best teams in the AFC.
“The choice is, do we bring Aaron Rodgers back to try and make the playoffs and have a decent season, or do we start our massive rebuild that we’re gonna have to do after next season anyway, right now? Do we get started with that right now as opposed to delaying it and dealing with his drama and probably another injury?”
During Sunday’s win over Jacksonville, Rodgers completed only 53.3% of his passes, but he managed to throw for 289 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for a season-high 45 yards. The performance led some fans to believe the 41-year-old still might have something left in the tank and deserves to remain with the Jets for the 2025 season.
While some fans are willing to roll the dice with Rodgers in 2025 after Sunday’s win, Giannotti firmly believes it is time for a fresh start.
