The New York Jets are officially set to interview one of the most common names linked to their head coaching position.
According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, Mike Vrabel will interview with the Jets at their team facility later today.
According to Peter Schrager of NFL Network, the Jets are the first team to interview Vrabel, although the Bears and Saints could speak to him later this week.
The Jets are preparing for a critical offseason in 2025 as they prepare to hire a new head coach and general manager. While the regular season doesn’t end until Sunday, the Jets are wasting no time, as they have already started their search on both fronts. So far, they’ve met with one head coach and four general manager candidates:
Head Coach:
- Ron Rivera
General Manager:
- Jon Robinson
- Thomas Dimitroff
- Jim Nagy
- Louis Riddick
Vrabel is one of the Jets’ most accomplished options for the head coaching role. As the head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2023, Vrabel would go 54-45 over six seasons. This includes two division-winning seasons of at least 11 wins, three playoff appearances, and a 2-3 postseason record.
This past season, Vrabel consulted with the Cleveland Browns. However, his contract ended Monday, making him available for the Jets to interview.
While his personal success is attractive, Vrabel’s ability to hire talented coordinators is also important. While in Tennessee, Vrabel would hire Matt LaFleur and then Arthur Smith to be his offensive coordinator. Both succeeded and went on to become head coaches.
For a franchise that has struggled to move past the days of Rex Ryan and a brief stint with Bill Parcells, Vrabel checks all the boxes. The real question is if the Jets check his.
It was reported by Collin Cowherd on “The Herd” that Vrabel would be interested in the Jets’ job but we would need to like the general manager. This has led to speculation the Jets could pursue Jon Robinson. Robinson was the general manager and executive vice president of the Titans from 2016-22, so they have experience together.
The Jets have already interviewed Robinson, which adds fuel to the fire. Still, it’s no guarantee Vrabel wants to work with him again or if the Jets are realistically considering him as a candidate.
The Jets are casting a wide net to find a new head coach and front office. It will likely be some time until a hire is finally announced. In the meantime, the Jets are weighing all their options.
