Following in-person interviews with Mike Vrabel and Ron Rivera and a scheduled interview with Rex Ryan on Tuesday, the New York Jets are expected to interview three additional candidates for their head coaching job.
According to FOX Sports NFL insider Peter Schrager, the Jets are expected to interview three coordinators from the NFC North: Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Because the Lions defeated the Vikings on Sunday night to clinch the NFC’s No. 1 seed, the Jets are expected to virtually interview Johnson and Glenn during Detroit’s bye week.
Johnson, 38, is in his sixth season with the Lions and his third season serving as the team’s offensive coordinator. Johnson has led Detroit to three consecutive top-five finishes in points per game, including a top-ranked 33.2 points per game in 2024.
Glenn, 52, is no stranger to the Jets organization. A former Jets first-round pick in 1993, Glenn spent eight seasons with the Jets, collecting 338 solo tackles, five forced fumbles, 24 interceptions, and two Pro Bowl appearances. Following his retirement after the 2008 season, Glenn returned to the Jets organization for two more seasons, serving as a personnel scout before transitioning into coaching.
In his fourth season as Detroit’s defensive coordinator, Glenn leads one of the NFL’s top defensive units. Through 16 games this season, the Lions’ defense ranked seventh in defensive DVOA.
Flores, 43, is in his second season serving as the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator. Through 16 games this season, Minnesota’s defensive unit has been among the league’s best, ranking third in defensive DVOA.
Before his time with the Vikings, the Brooklyn native served as the Miami Dolphins’ head coach for three seasons (2019-2021), compiling a 24-25 record (.490). Over his tenure, Miami enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons (2020 and 2021) but failed to make the playoffs.
