One of the New York Jets’ top head coaching targets reportedly views the team as his preferred destination.
According to Brain Costello of the New York Post, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator has “told people the Jets are his first choice.”
“Aaron Glenn feels like the favorite for the coaching job,” Costello opined in his article. “I am not saying that based off anything I’ve been told by the Jets. He just checks the boxes in a lot of ways. The only issue is his lack of head coaching experience, but I think he can overcome that in the Jets’ eyes with a strong second interview. I know there is speculation that Glenn might go to the Saints, but he has told people the Jets are his first choice. We’ll see if it plays out that way.”
Glenn, along with the Vikings’ Brian Flores, is seen as one of the main candidates for the Jets’ job. He has produced as Detroit’s defensive coordinator and is respected around the league, earning head coaching interviews as early as 2021 before he had ever called a play in the NFL.
Whether the former Jets defensive back lands the job will likely depend on how he pitches his plan for the organization. He will have to sell the team on his vision for the culture and how he wants the offense to operate, specifically regarding his staff and scheme.
Considering the success and reputation he has already earned, it would be unwise to say that Glenn cannot accomplish those things in the eyes of the Jets. The hiring process is not yet in its final stage, but Glenn is definitely one of the best options New York could land for its head coaching vacancy.
