One wonders what the man’s drink of choice may be on this free agency day.
New York Jets free agent quarterback Justin Fields has gone to a much more enviable location amid the NFL free agent chaos. Instead of rotting in The States, awaiting news from his representation and trying to figure things out over here, Fields revealed that he’s currently in Dubai.
Oh, and by the way, the picture Fields posted features his drink of choice, coffee. But still, I’m sure coffee isn’t the only thing he enjoyed in Dubai.
As Jets fans are acutely aware, Fields is a top priority for the new Aaron Glenn–Darren Mougey regime. Replacing Aaron Rodgers is of the utmost priority, and the 26-year-old Ohio State product is arguably the most athletic quarterback in the NFL.
Just how much potential is there?
The potential argument remains hotly contested. If an offensive coach can improve Fields’s traditional quarterback attributes—pocket awareness, reading leverages, real-time progressions, etc.—he’d become an unstoppable player at the position, thanks to his dual-threat nature.
At the same time, the smart coaching staff would enter the venture with the understanding that certain limitations would be involved—at least initially.
A Justin Fields-led New York Jets offense would feature plenty of zone-reads and RPOs designed to get the defense moving east-west. This bodes well for a downhill runner like Braelon Allen, who hits the hole extremely hard.
Whether the Jets and Fields agree to a deal may depend on how the latter feels about the current situation.
