Justin Fields has finally claimed the title many thought he deserved over Zach Wilson four years ago: quarterback of the New York Jets.
However, the Ohio State product’s arrival to New York comes with much different circumstances than some fans dreamed when they started photoshopping Fields into a Jets jersey, especially in the immediate aftermath of the team’s fateful win over the Los Angeles Rams in December 2020.
After four years (44 starts) to prove his worth in the NFL, Fields has yet to show that he is franchise quarterback material. The Chicago Bears gave up on him after three years, while the Pittsburgh Steelers benched him for a declining Russell Wilson after six games. Now, he finds himself on a “prove-it” deal with the Jets.
The 26-year-old’s talent is undeniable. Few quarterbacks can match his athleticism or arm strength. So, the potential is still there, especially after witnessing the late breakouts of other talented quarterbacks, such as Sam Darnold, Geno Smith, and Baker Mayfield.
How can Fields unlock that potential in New York?
That is what we are here to answer in today’s film review of Fields’ six starts with the Steelers in 2024.
Below is Blewett’s Blitz’s full Justin Fields scouting report (strengths and weaknesses) and film review, which is over an hour and forty minutes in length.
