Why did Andre Cisco choose the New York Jets in free agency?
Speaking with team reporter Caroline Hendershot, the Queens native revealed what drew him to the Jets beyond his childhood fandom.
“It’s hard to say anything other than New York because it is such a big reason,” said Cisco. “But coach AG (Aaron Glenn) obviously has a great background, great track record, and you know he is going to be passionate about the project and how we get it done, so I was happy to join that.”
The Jets inked Cisco to a one-year, $10 million contract.
Cisco, 25, was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. The Syracuse product appeared in 63 games (including 47 starts) for Jacksonville across the past four seasons, compiling 229 total tackles, 24 passes defended, eight interceptions, and three forced fumbles. He is also very disciplined, committing only four defensive penalties over the past three seasons.
Over his first two seasons as a starting safety for Jacksonville (2022-23), Cisco thrived in coverage, allowing only four touchdowns while recording seven interceptions. He yielded just 493 yards over 1,141 coverage snaps.
Cisco started 14 games for the Jaguars in 2024 but struggled across multiple statistical categories. He posted career worsts in overall Pro Football Focus grade (58.8), missed tackles (11), touchdowns allowed (3), yards per reception allowed (19.5), and passer rating allowed (125.7).
Despite his down year in 2024, Cisco’s body of work makes him an appealing addition to Aaron Glenn’s secondary. As Jets X-Factor’s Michael Nania detailed, Cisco is arguably the Jets’ best value signing in free agency this offseason.
