The New York Jets may not be expected to take a quarterback when they make their pick with the seventh overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, but that doesn’t mean they are going to ignore the position altogether.
New York has begun doing their due diligence on many of the quarterbacks in the current draft class.
From Jaxson Dart to a former Jets fan in Kyle McCord, Gang Green is expected to leave no stone unturned at the quarterback position in April.
And that includes one of the top signal-caller from last year’s college season.
Jets Hold Visit For Quinn Ewers
In the lead-up to Ewers’ Pro-Day at Texas tomorrow, the Jets are reportedly holding the signal-caller in for a visit per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
“Just as newsworthy is what’s happening around Ewers’ pro day. The plan is for him to meet with the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders today and have dinner with the New Orleans Saints brass tonight, with all three teams expected to send big crews to Austin,” Breer wrote. “He’s already has 30 visits set up with the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and Raiders for early April.”
Clearly, Ewers will be a prospect that many teams covet this year – although when exactly he’ll be selected is up for debate.
Ewers is currently ninth on Mel Kiper’s quarterback list at this point in the process.
In three years with the Longhorns, Ewers threw for 68 touchdowns on 9,128 yards with 24 interceptions. He had a career-high 12 picks during the 2024 season and fell to the eventual champion Ohio State Buckeyes in their College Football Playoff Semifinal matchup.
The upside is certainly there to make Ewers a Day-2 selection at this point but consistency and a lack of athleticism in making plays happen when they aren’t there is something that will deter teams from him.
New York has begun their top-30 visits with prospective draft picks over the last couple of weeks, but as we hit a full month before April’s Draft, the search for a new quarterback has begun again.
And no stone will be left unturned.
