The New York Jets have bolstered their wide receiver unit with the addition of a reliable veteran.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets have agreed with free agent Josh Reynolds on a one-year deal worth up to $5 million.
Reynolds, 30, is a familiar face for the Jets’ brass. He spent three years in Detroit (2021-23) alongside Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. In 2024, Reynolds signed with the Broncos, while the Jets’ current general manager, Darren Mougey, was Denver’s assistant general manager.
The 6-foot-3, 192-pound Reynolds should be an ideal floor-raiser for New York’s wide receiver unit. While playing in Detroit, Reynolds showed the ability to produce efficient results in a complementary role.
Across three seasons with the Lions (38 games), Reynolds caught 97 of his 159 targets for 1,393 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was Detroit’s No. 2 wide receiver in the team’s 12-win 2023 campaign, finishing with 40 receptions on 64 targets for 608 yards and five touchdowns. Lions quarterback Jared Goff had a 113.3 passer rating when targeting Reynolds in 2023, more than 15 points above his season average.
Reynolds joined the Broncos on a two-year, $9 million deal in 2024. Through Week 5, his efficiency was similar to his 2023 season. He caught 12 of his 19 targets for 184 yards and one touchdown, generating a 112.4 passer rating when targeted, more than 40 points higher than Broncos QB Bo Nix’s average over that span. However, Reynolds suffered a finger injury that sidelined him until mid-December. Reynolds was also injured in a shooting during his absence.
Denver waived Reynolds before he returned from his injuries, and he was claimed by the Jaguars, who seldom utilized him during his short stint to close the season (five targets in four games).
Jacksonville released Reynolds after the season, which means that the Jets’ decision to sign him will not affect their compensatory pick formula (since he is not coming off an expired contract). The Jets are currently projected to net two compensatory picks in the 2026 draft (fourth-round and seventh-round).
The Jets’ wide receiver depth chart now appears as follows:
- Garrett Wilson
- Josh Reynolds
- Allen Lazard
