Is this really a possibility for the New York Jets with the No. 7 overall pick?
In his latest (yet highly stunning) mock draft, NFL.com’s Marc Ross predicted that first-year general manager Darren Mougey will select Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty with the No. 7 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, less than one week away.
Here are the first 10 selections from Ross’ mock draft:
- Tennessee Titans: Cam Ward, QB, Miami
- Cleveland Browns: Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State
- New York Giants: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado
- New England Patriots: Will Campbell, OL, LSU
- Jacksonville Jaguars: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State
- Las Vegas Raiders: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
- New York Jets: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
- Carolina Panthers: Mason Graham, DT, Michigan
- New Orleans Saints: Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss
- Chicago Bears: Armand Membou, OT, Missouri
“With Justin Fields under center, it would be wise for the Jets to bulk up the ground game,” wrote Ross. “Breece Hall has been OK, but pairing him with a future star in Jeanty would give new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand the kind of two-headed monster in the backfield that the assistant coach worked with in Detroit. A potent rushing attack is something that ultimately would fuel Fields’ growth as a quarterback.”
Jeanty, 21, was a three-star recruit hailing from Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas, before committing to Boise State, ultimately spending all three of his college seasons as a Bronco.
In 2024, Jeanty compiled one of the most dominant seasons ever by a college running back, delivering a historic campaign that etched his name into the record books.
Jeanty rushed for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns while averaging 7.0 yards per carry, falling just 30 yards shy of Barry Sanders’ long-standing FBS single-season rushing record.
A Heisman Trophy finalist, Jeanty also led all FBS and FCS running backs in forced missed tackles (152) and yards after contact (1,970), demonstrating rare vision, strength, and shiftiness throughout the entirety of the season.
Ranked No. 7 overall on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board, the Florida native could be tough for Mougey to pass on if he’s still available when New York is on the clock.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini recently speculated the Jets could consider trading Breece Hall if Jeanty is still on the board at No. 7.
